Political theory of Franзois Guizot, a French liberal thinker of the 19th century, has certain aspects that appear topical nowadays, and it is from this angle that they are examined in the article. Such concepts of his theory are investigated here, as “sovereignty of Reason”, “social power”, “internal means of government”. Revealing originality of F.Guizot’s creative thought, its significance for modernity, the author at the same time demonstrates the inherently contradictory character of a number of theses that were formulated by this theoretician, which pertais first of all to the principles of publicity and of discussion.
