Abstract

The motif of the article is research of Zapatism as one of the most famed currents in the world movement of antiglobalists. On the basis of detailed analysis of the Zapatists’ strategy and of the views of their leader – subcomandante Marcos,– the author tries to judge the possibilities of helping left radical doctrines out of the sense crisis and historical deadlock. According to his conclusion, this attempt to adapt radical opposition of left persuasion to the tendencies of the late 20th to early 21st centuries, for all its promising beginning in the 1990s, now looks far from unquestionable. Zapatism as the newest version of left radical ideology adapted to the conditions of post-modernity is beginning to lag behind the realities of the modern world. It’s no simple task that now faces Marcos: to win back his intellectual leadership and to restore his political influence in antiglobalism. This requires a bold and non-typical move. It is just on whether Marcos finds himself able to make such a move, that further fortunes of Zapatism will depend, the author holds.
