Abstract

A Methodological Workshop on Modern Tendencies of the Development of Symbolic Dimensions of Politics and Problems of Ideology, organized within the framework of the Russian Association of Political Science, was held in Moscow on November 11, 2003. The main papers were presented by Prof. A.I.Solovyov (Moscow State University), and by O.Yu.Malinova, DPh (Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences, Russian Academy of Sciences). To name some of those who took part in the discussion: Prof. O.V.Gaman-Golutvina (Academy of Public Service); Prof. M.V.Ilyin (Moscow State Institute (University) of International Relations); S.N.Pshizova (Moscow State University); I.S.Semenenko (Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences), e.a. In this issue, the journal acquaints the readers with some of the contributions into the discussion. Here are the questions that were proposed for discussion at the Workshop: 1. What is the role played by ideas and by images within the symbolic dimensions of modern politics? 2. Is imageology replacing ideology? 3. How might participants in the production and spreading of political discourses be identified? 4. In what terms should the current transformations be described?
