Abstract
An author from the USA touching upon the problem of national identity under conditions of multiculturalism and appealing, in particular, to the case of Tadjikistan, discusses, in the historical and in the geopolitical perspectives, different aspects of eventual formation of stable symbolic identity in this post-Soviet republic’s plural (multicultural) society. He deems possible cultural consolidation of the now dissociate country around the image of the Samanidae as national symbol.
