Abstract

The genesis of Russian-Georgian relations is today conjoined mainly with problems of regional security and of the territorial integrity of both the states. The history of their interaction and, likewise, contemporary directions of state modernization of Russia and of Georgia are the main factors influencing the mutual relations and designating the outlines of their strained mutual opposition. However, notwithstanding the sharpness of the contradictions that potentially can lead to an open military clash, there are grounds to suppose that new relations of the two countries, that are forming under the pressure of real threats being engendered by the logic of the modern international relations, will inevitably bring the genesis of partnership between them in the interests of providing regional security.
