Abstract

The article presents a review of principal applications of linguistic analysis insofar as the study of political discourse is concerned; the said analysis is based on four main methods: critical, cognitive, descriptive, and quantitative. The author illustrates such procedures in the studying of the language of politics, as: analysis of frequency of usage of certain words; analysis of the metaphorics and of comparisons a politician resorts to in his appearances; the study of emphatic constructions, e.a. Qualitative analysis of political language allows understanding and even prediction of political leaders' activities, the author maintains.
