Abstract

In the article the question has been raised of what should be the proper place of the science studying elections within the system of social sciences. After analyzing the history of psephology and its present-day condition, the author comes to the judgment that it ought to be regarded as a special political-science discipline similar by its type to the “studies in the subject-matters of the state”, “party studies” etc. At the same time, according to his conclusion, this discipline is so far at the stage of just being formed and therefore is possessed neither of its consolidated structure, nor of its clearly outlined subject field.
