Abstract

On the basis of the methodology elaborated in works by G.Simmel, Z.Baumann, M.Castells et al., the author investigates the influence of different forms of money on social construction of space. The money of the market exchange serves as sort of the means of constructing local spaces and reflects their geoeconomic, political, symbolic, social unity, whereas the virtual money of the global economics of finance is indifferent towards real spaces, and it forms its own «space of the currents» (M.Castells). This ex-territorial money promotes construction of a new spatial perspective determining re-estimation of concrete territories, their inclusion in, or exclusion from, global development.
