Abstract

In this article, a new model is proposed of the formation of Russian political culture and of the appearance of the Russian state – model based on evidence of contemporaries (Arabs, Byzantines, Franks), as well as corroborated by archaeological testimonies (by the topography of hoards) and by linguistic findings. The model is fitted for reconstructing the situation that existed throughout the period of the Kiev khaganate (the 9th to the first half of the 10th century).

Keywords
