Abstract

A prominent Russian expert in the field of ethnology discusses the evolution of cultural forms and systems in the changing world. He analyzes the socio-cultural nature of modern nations on the basis of the concept of cultural complexity. As is demonstrated in V.A. Tishkov’s article, difficult search for answers to the question: “What is nation?” – is being carried on, apart from Russia, also in other countries within the scientist’s sight.
