Abstract

Ingar Benonisen’s article contains analysis of the intra-elite polarization in Austria from 1920 up to 1933. The empirical base of the investigation is composed of replicas (Zwischenrute) made by deputies and fixed in the verbatim reports of the parliamentary hearings. The analysis confirms that it was interaction between the social democrats’ defense strategy and the increasing aggressiveness of the Heimatblock in the Austrian parliament that became one of the main reasons of the crash of the First Austrian republic.
