Abstract

The review considers the collective monograph “The State in Political Science: Transformations in a Twenty-First Century Cocial Context”, published in 2020 by leading experts in the field of political science and public administration. The authors offer a detailed overview of contemporary trends in international and national state development, striving to advance in the conceptualization of the state as a category of social sciences. Despite the fact that the 15 chapters presented in the work are very different both in design and in the subject matter of their research, the monograph as a whole can provoke a detailed public discussion dedicated to the most topical problems of state building as well as scientific study into how those challenges may present themselves in the modern conjuncture of political and international relations (this is an area which remains without proper study in Russian science). The excessive breadth of the analytical horizon and the complexity of the presentation do not block it from being perceived as a promising springboard for deepening research areas demanded in academia.
