The article offers comparative analysis of social and political polarization in post-Soviet Russia and Ukraine, it is aimed at revealing the main specific factors, as well as possible political consequences of such polarization. As is demonstrated on the basis of the data of sociological polls, effect of the mentioned factors of polarization in Russia and in Ukraine is sharply intensified by the influence of the global financial and economic crisis, which endangers the functioning of the main political institutions in these countries.
