The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Research and Article Preparation

If an author has used artificial intelligence (AI) tools in preparing an article, this must be clearly stated at the very beginning of the file in a message to the editor, specifying which procedures were used and for which parts of the manuscript.

The use of AI tools does not relieve the author of full responsibility for the data provided, their interpretation, or the quality of the text. If factual errors are identified – regardless of their origin – the editors may reject the manuscript.

The editorial policy regarding the use of AI tools depends on the methods and purposes for which they are used:

1. If AI tools are used to collect, process, or analyse data, search for and summarise literature, or prepare illustrations, this must be disclosed in the methodology section of the manuscript. The editors reserve the right to request the text of prompts and the responses received – that is, a transcript of the interaction with the language model – not for publication, but for editorial review and, where appropriate, for sharing with reviewers. Failure to provide this information may result in the manuscript being rejected.

2. If AI tools are used for editing or proofreading, a comparison file showing all corrections made by the AI tools must be submitted in addition to the notification to the editor.

3. If the reference list is formatted using AI tools, notification to the editor is sufficient.

4. The direct use of AI tools to generate the text of the article is not permitted. The notification to the editor (and, in the case described in point 1, the methodology section) must include a list of the language models or other AI tools used, their versions, and the dates on which they were accessed.

Each manuscript submitted to the journal is checked for textual originality using specialised tools. If the use of AI tools is detected without appropriate disclosure, the manuscript will be rejected.
